I think this was a good warm up for his excellent RCA recording of the B minor Mass made a number of years later.

What is striking is how much better trumpeters are today in handling these clarino parts. No doubt that Vacchiano is struggling at times as Mel Broiles did with Gobermann in the Brandenburgs.

Thanks again,

FredFredhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03877039819215830724noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6631827761986497493.post-82925017570713907212010-12-13T17:34:57.000-05:002010-12-13T17:34:57.000-05:00Hey Bryan,

When I was in college, Shaw conducted our combined choruses and orchestra in Bach's St Matthew Passion. It was a great nthrill, especially after attending a lecture by him which was very philosophical and spiritual.

FredFredhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03877039819215830724noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6631827761986497493.post-26997363942901212702010-12-13T17:22:04.372-05:002010-12-13T17:22:04.372-05:00Bryan,
